Sands of Time
(reverse Collaglass with copper leaf on copper and wood stand)

As an artist, I frequently revisit different aspects of man's relationship with our natural environment - and our attempts to exert some form of order over what we see.

Sands of Time
looks at our fascination with our place in space - and how, despite the chaos of our night skies, our movement in space has ultimately given us our concept of time: days, months, seasons and years.

The sun acts as the focal point - just as it was the true focus of ancient monuments like Stonehenge.  But there are also echoes of later timepieces.

There is actually only one colour of glass within this cast piece - but by varying the thickness, the red is softened to amber and the golden yellow of the focal sun.
