Tree Plaque
(Cast glass, blown glass insertion, wrought iron)

This piece was one of two commissions for the roof garden of a new cancer ward at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford in 2008.

For this element, I was asked to created a plaque with the words, "The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start."

Given the garden location, I chose to use a winter tree - with ghost leaves representing the miracle of each spring's new growth.

The plaque is made in cast crystal, with a mould blown sun (thanks must go to Lynn Baker for her hot glass skills!).  The bare tree itself is made from wrought iron (made by Gaz Hodgetts), which acts as a support for the glass plaque.
